The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, but with all that looking over, we may forget to take care of our own lawn. In his exhibition The Grass Is Greener, sculptor Patrik Adamec works both materially and thematically with concepts of pressure and tension, placing them into installations and images of simplified, idealized landscapes – internal, mental, and physical. Through them, he examines the pressure to perform that we place on ourselves, often under the influence of our surroundings. This pressure becomes intertwined with exhaustion, uncertainty, and the need to succeed in a world that continually raises its demands while offering little support. The exhibition also captures what it looks like when one is drowning in illusions of others’ success and becoming lost in one’s own mind.
Patrik Adamec (@patty8alot, *1994) graduated from the Sculpture Studio I led by Lukáš Rittstein and Michal Cimala at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. The central theme of Adamec’s work is tension – material, relational, and personal. He explores the complexities of human relationships, inner conflicts, and perseverance, searching for moments of mutual understanding. In 2023, he received the Critics’ Award for Young Painting for his unconventional, sculpture-based approach using upholstered canvases. This method can be seen in various forms in The Grass Is Greener.
The exhibition will run from 28 November 2025 to 25 January 2026.
