Petr Hajdyla
Petr Hajdyla (*1985) is a Czech painter whose figurative paintings explore our relationship to time, finitude and uncertainty. Drawing on personal experience and everyday situations, he transforms ordinary moments into psychologically charged scenes that reflect the desire to live fully, the need for security and the uneasy awareness of how little control we have over our own lives and the world around us.
Hajdyla’s paintings often place serious and existential questions in unexpected situations shaped by humour, exaggeration and absurdity. His figures struggle with familiar experiences — the fear of losing time, the desire to act, the need to escape or the difficulty of remaining present. What initially appears playful or strange gradually reveals a more vulnerable and unsettling dimension.
His painterly language is defined by vivid colour, expressive brushwork, simplified colour fields and a deliberately fluid sense of space. These formal elements do more than describe a scene: they convey the psychological state of the figures and the atmosphere of a particular moment. Hajdyla’s paintings move between attraction and unease, humour and seriousness, the personal and the universal.
