Michal Drozen
Michal Drozen (*1989) was born in Prague. In 2014, he graduated from the drawing studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague under the supervision of Jiří Petrbok, having previously been taught by Jitka Svobodová. He is known on the local art scene primarily as a creator of large-format self-portraits and drawings depicting prefabricated housing estates.
An artist’s work often speaks most eloquently about the artist themselves. This is undoubtedly true of Michal Drozen. Apart from a period of roughly five years during which he focused exclusively on self-portraiture, however, his message is broader – in his paintings he does not merely depict himself, but presents a certain generational and cultural statement.
In recent years, the artist has been actively involved in his own musical production, to which he has always had a close connection. This is reflected in the paintings in which he documented the local club scene, or his earlier involvement in the country band Dingo.
Michal Drozen remains, above all, true to the connection with his personal life.
His current musical project is called Spiral Sadness.
