DISTURBED SURFACE
25.9.2026 - 8.11.2026
The central theme of the group exhibition Disturbed Surface is relief-based approaches rooted in pictorial imagery. The selection of artists traces these artistic strategies across different generations of the contemporary Czech art scene. Through this choice, the exhibition deliberately inhabits an intermediate space between painting and the object or sculpture, reflecting the tendencies of the new materiality.
A defining characteristic of the exhibited approaches is the fluid boundary between individual media, which the artists permeate and simultaneously redefine. They move freely between an active engagement with pictoriality and a spatial expression that aligns closely with the object or sculptural language. The painting thus ceases to be merely a flat surface, becoming a structure, relief, mass, or object.
The resulting shape of the exhibition is the outcome of a collaboration between gallerist Petr Hájek and Vojtěch Horálek, who appears here in the dual role of exhibiting artist and exhibition curator.
