Portraits
10. 10. 2014 - 11. 10. 2014
Every good gallery works thanks, among other things, to collectors - people who are interested in art and who, by buying works of art, not only support its operation and artists, but also participate in setting critical mirrors of society. The exhibition Epos 257 - Portraits is thus the first look into the collectors' collections. When I was approached to show the work Epose 257 from the collection of Patrik Šimon, I did not hesitate for a minute. I had three reasons - the opportunity to exhibit an iconic work from a private collection, which recently focuses on progressive art, another reason was the reputation of the author of the work, who realizes remarkable and artistically valuable installations, the meaning of which goes beyond the usual expressiveness of contemporary Czech artists, and finally, to emphasize the meaningful connection with the campaign before the municipal elections, the content and image level of which was so low that it directly called itself a socially engaged reflection.
The exhibition at The Chemistry Gallery is followed by 200 political billboards for this year's election campaign attacked by Epose 257's characteristic intervention in public space - shots of several colored projectiles with a paintball gun at individual billboards.
At the same time, Epos 257 releases a video admitting to these attacks and calling them a visual attack on the iconography of today along our roads, calling for civil disobedience and stating that political propaganda in public space has reached monstrous proportions.
