Fortress
19. 2. 2016 – 19. 3. 2016
Tomáš Tichý, who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 2011, here presents his latest work in the exhibition entitled Fortress. In his work the painter reflects contemporary social phenomena (infinite economic growth, selfie culture, postmodern consumerism) and recasts it into an apposite artistic abbreviation. In his work he is inspired by sociological studies describing global civilisation processes which have been elaborated upon for example in the work of the Polish-British sociologist Zygmunt Baumann. Tichý makes use of his reflections as an invisible framework of images manifesting themselves through atmosphere, choice of location or an insertion of disoriented and self-centred figures. Tomáš is this year's finalist in the prestigious London painting contest The Threadneedle Prize and was also a finalist in the same competition in 2014.
