The painter, Eliáš Urban- a 2016 graduate of AVU (Jiří Sopko’s atelier)- gives us many diverse environments and the actions taking place within. His paintings show figures that, for the viewer, seem to be taking illogical actions in terms of the place where the tableau is situated. They can also be seen as places with totally improbable contexts which somehow create „harmonious incompatibilities.“ Despite the fact that at the very first sight it appears that these paintings do not offer „anything more“ than a representation of reality- a nifty work with paradoxes- they are a visual joy. Inherent in his paintings there is a curious play of content, absurdity and light humour.
